About Yuriko -
Genetic Counseling Student

I am an introspective, empathetic, and analytical person with a passion for equity and inclusion.

I learned about Genetic Counseling while exploring other potential careers at the start of the pandemic. It appealed to both my scientific and compassionate nature. Shadowing and informational interviews affirmed that Genetic Counseling is the right career for me. I currently work as a home organizer but I miss the intellectual stimulation of working with individuals with disabilities in higher education. While working in higher education, I was constantly learning about different diagnoses and disorders.

I believe I can contribute to genetic counseling because of my patience, humanistic perspective, and interest in empowering others to make informed decisions.

Currently, I’m drawn to cancer, telehealth, and psychiatric genetic counseling.
